On July 15, 2024, MIT Open Learning announced the AI + Open Education Initiative, aimed at exploring how AI can enhance open access education. The initiative includes a call for rapid-response papers from practitioners worldwide, examining the benefits and challenges posed by AI in the open education ecosystem. MIT's open education platforms, such as MIT OpenCourseWare (MITOCW), MITxCourses, and #DayofAI, are integral to this initiative. Additionally, a $4 million grants program has been launched to mitigate AI-driven power concentration.
