Egyptian Embassy Security in New York Beats U.S. Protesters Yassin and Ali Elsamak Amid Rafah Crossing Aid Demand
Security personnel at the Egyptian Embassy in New York physically assaulted pro-Palestinian protesters demanding the reopening of the Rafah crossing to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. Among those attacked were two U.S. citizens, brothers Yassin Elsamak, 22, and Ali Elsamak, 15, who were dragged inside the embassy, beaten with chains, and injured during the protest. Their father has called for justice following the incident, which also involved intervention by the New York Police Department (NYPD), who subsequently charged the brothers with assault. The protests were linked to a leaked phone call in which Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr issued instructions to embassy staff to detain protesters. The events have sparked further demonstrations, including a protest in front of the Egyptian embassy in the Netherlands condemning Egypt's stance on the Gaza blockade.
