BP Plc has agreed to sell its U.S. onshore wind arm, bp Wind Energy, to LS Power, marking the first major disposal under Chief Executive Officer Murray Auchincloss’s plan to scale back renewable investments and refocus on oil and gas. The transaction, whose value was not disclosed, forms part of BP’s broader strategy to raise about $20 billion through divestments as it seeks to improve shareholder returns after prolonged share-price underperformance. Once completed, the wind portfolio will be managed within LS Power’s Clearlight Energy unit. BP has been under mounting investor pressure to prioritise higher-margin hydrocarbon projects. The company said the sale would free up capital for upstream expansion while still allowing the wind assets to continue operating under a specialist power-sector owner.
