Onsemi said it has entered a strategic collaboration with Nvidia aimed at deploying 800-volt direct-current power architectures in the chipmaker’s next generation of artificial-intelligence data centers. The partners will combine Onsemi’s silicon and silicon-carbide power devices with Nvidia’s data-center platforms to distribute electricity more efficiently and curb energy losses, the companies said Tuesday. Higher-voltage DC distribution reduces the number of power conversion steps compared with conventional 48-volt systems, potentially lowering energy consumption, space requirements and cooling costs as AI workloads surge. Investors welcomed the agreement, sending Onsemi shares up roughly 4.8% in U.S. pre-market trading.
