Eaton Corp. said it is working with Nvidia Corp. to design and supply 800-volt high-voltage direct current power systems for the chipmaker’s next-generation Rubin Ultra GPU racks, which are geared toward artificial-intelligence workloads requiring more than one megawatt of power per installation. The companies aim to replace the longstanding 480-volt alternating-current standard in data centers with HVDC architectures that promise higher efficiency and lower installation costs, addressing the growing energy demands of AI computing. Eaton will integrate its power management hardware and software with Nvidia’s reference designs to accelerate adoption by cloud providers and enterprise customers. Industry analysts project global data-center capital expenditure to exceed $1 trillion this decade, driven largely by AI infrastructure. Eaton’s shares rose about 2.4% in pre-market trading after the partnership was announced.
