The European Union has published the final version of its General-Purpose AI Code of Practice to assist companies in complying with the landmark AI Act, which will come into effect on August 2, 2025. Developed by independent experts, the voluntary code provides a framework focusing on transparency, safety, and copyright protections for creators related to advanced AI models. The code aims to ensure that general-purpose AI systems deployed within the EU are safe, transparent, and respect intellectual property rights. It serves as a practical guide for businesses to navigate the regulatory requirements of the AI Act, which addresses systemic risks and legal obligations associated with artificial intelligence technologies. The European Commission emphasized that the code is designed to facilitate industry compliance and promote legal certainty amid evolving AI regulations in the bloc.
