Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an alleged MS-13 member and human smuggler, surrendered to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Baltimore on Aug. 25 after being released from a Tennessee jail. Federal prosecutors have charged him with conspiracy and unlawful transportation of migrants for profit, saying he ran more than 100 smuggling trips over nearly a decade and earned about $100,000 a year. He is also accused of assaulting his wife. Speaking at the White House shortly after signing a package of crime-focused executive orders, President Donald Trump said Abrego Garcia "will no longer terrorize our country" and criticised Democratic politicians for what he called their support of the suspect. Attorney General Pam Bondi told reporters the administration has the case "under control" and is moving to ensure Abrego Garcia’s deportation once legal proceedings conclude. The comments come as the administration expands operations against MS-13 and other transnational gangs in Washington, D.C., and nationwide. Officials said recent raids had removed additional gang members, underscoring what Trump called a broader effort to tighten immigration enforcement and deter violent crime.
