Since June 2024, certain low-cost Android smartphones from Chinese manufacturers, including brands like SHOWJI, have been found to come pre-installed with trojanized versions of popular messaging apps WhatsApp and Telegram. These counterfeit apps are designed to target cryptocurrency users by replacing their crypto wallet addresses in chat messages, potentially leading to theft. Fake phone models involved include the “S24 Ultra” and “Note 13 Pro.” Separately, a new parking scam has emerged in several French departments, including Marseille, where fraudsters place fake QR codes on parking meters. These counterfeit codes mislead users who attempt to pay for parking, exposing them to potential fraud. Authorities have issued warnings about this scam, highlighting that fraudsters have also been impersonating parking attendants to deceive the public.
