The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has expanded an ongoing recall of frozen shrimp products due to potential contamination with the radioactive isotope cesium-137, which is linked to cancer risk. Multiple brands, including Walmart's Great Value and others distributed by Southwind Foods under the names Sand Bar, Arctic Shores, Best Yet, and Great American, have been affected. The recall covers both raw and cooked frozen shrimp sold in multiple states, including Arizona. Health officials have increased inspections amid concerns that long-term exposure to cesium-137 could elevate cancer risks. Separately, several French cities such as Paris, Lyon, and Lille have banned tuna from school canteens to protect children from mercury exposure. Independent laboratory tests on American canned tuna and fish products revealed high levels of mercury and arsenic, with nearly all albacore tuna samples containing dangerously high arsenic levels.
