A new Ifop survey for broadcaster LCI indicates that 63 percent of French adults want President Emmanuel Macron to dissolve the National Assembly and call fresh legislative elections. The online poll of 1,000 respondents was carried out on 26 August as political tensions mount over the minority government led by Prime Minister François Bayrou. Public expectations extend beyond a simple reset of parliament: 68 percent of those questioned said Macron should resign if the snap election fails to deliver an absolute majority to any bloc. Nonetheless, 51 percent do not expect the president to take the dissolution route, underscoring uncertainty about how the Élysée will respond. Bayrou has scheduled a confidence vote for 8 September to secure backing for his fiscal-consolidation programme after opposition parties signalled they would not support his cabinet. The threat of political deadlock has weighed on French assets this week, adding pressure on Macron as calls for decisive action grow.
