Paris has experienced multiple power outages in recent weeks, primarily attributed to extreme heat conditions affecting electrical infrastructure. On June 23, a blackout on the Île de la Cité disrupted the Paris Palais de Justice, halting court proceedings for two days before power was gradually restored on June 25. The heat wave also caused widespread electricity disruptions across the city, impacting up to 13,000 customers at the peak and leaving around 6,000 customers without power as of early July. Notable locations affected by power cuts include the Galeries Lafayette department store and parts of the French National Assembly. These outages coincided with a surge in electricity demand driven by the heat wave, with France's power consumption reaching record levels in 2025. On July 7, the country's peak power demand hit approximately 94.3 gigawatts, the highest in three years, raising concerns about the resilience of the electrical grid amid ongoing extreme weather. Similar heat-driven electricity demand spikes and power load records have also been reported in China and South Korea.
