Since January 2025, Mexico has experienced at least 91 power outages, with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) held responsible for 18 of these incidents. In response to ongoing energy challenges, a 2024 energy reform approved in October has granted Mexican companies greater freedom to generate their own electricity, reducing reliance on the CFE and opening more options for private energy supply. Amid concerns about potential electricity cuts, the CFE and the National Center for Energy Control (CENACE) have requested industries in Nuevo León to reduce electricity consumption during peak demand hours. Both entities have affirmed their commitment to ensuring reliable energy supply nationwide, highlighting that they have taken various measures throughout the year to maintain availability. On June 9, the day with the highest demand of 52,945 megawatts, the operating reserve margin (MRO) was 9.69%, indicating sufficient reserve capacity. Despite increased demand during the heat season, the CFE and CENACE have guaranteed continuous electricity supply without disconnections.
