Following recent severe weather events across parts of France, including violent storms and hail in regions such as Puy-de-Dôme, Loire, and Seine-et-Marne, authorities have reported a surge in fraudulent activities targeting vulnerable residents. These scams involve fake contractors, often posing as roofers, who pressure homeowners for cash payments by promising rapid repairs at exorbitant prices. Law enforcement officials have warned the public about these deceptive practices, describing the perpetrators as opportunistic. In Seine-et-Marne, an organized scam involving fake bank advisors operating from Réau prison has defrauded victims of approximately 135,000 euros. Meanwhile, in Ireland, Bank of Ireland has experienced a tenfold increase in sophisticated “safe account” scams, where fraudsters impersonate bank representatives and coerce customers into transferring funds to fraudulent accounts, often via platforms like Revolut. The bank emphasized that it never requests customers to move money for safety reasons. This surge in scams has prompted warnings from multiple financial institutions and law enforcement agencies across Europe.
