Recent reports indicate a surge in online scams, particularly targeting users of messaging applications like WhatsApp and Telegram. A study by Revolut highlights that these platforms now account for 45% of reported scams in France, with WhatsApp emerging as a primary target for cybercriminals. Scammers are employing tactics such as image download and one-time password (OTP) scams to exploit unsuspecting users. Additionally, a significant portion of scams—54%—is occurring on social media platforms including Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. Users are being urged to take precautions to protect their accounts and personal information, including disabling certain features within the app to enhance privacy.
