Texas-based travel-center chain Buc-ee’s opened its first Virginia outpost on 30 June in Mount Crawford, Rockingham County, off Interstate 81. The 74,000-square-foot outlet houses 120 fuel pumps and is expected to generate more than 200 jobs following a capital outlay exceeding $60 million, state officials said as Governor Glenn Youngkin cut the ribbon. The Virginia debut was followed on 1 July by a similarly sized store in Brunswick, Georgia, underscoring Buc-ee’s rapid expansion beyond its home market. The two openings lift the privately held company’s network to about 54 travel centers in 11 states. Buc-ee’s, founded in 1982, says projects already under construction are slated to push its footprint past 70 locations in 17 states within the next two years.
