Berlin Zoo marked the first birthday of giant panda twins Leni and Lotti on 22 August with bamboo-topped decorations and frozen treats made from carrot and beetroot juice. The female cubs, each now weighing about 21 kilograms, are the only giant pandas living in Germany alongside their parents, Meng Meng and Jiao Qing. Born on 22 August 2024, the sisters—known in Chinese as Meng Hao and Meng Tian—are just the second pair of panda twins ever born in Germany. Under the breeding agreement with China, they are expected to remain in Berlin for another 18 months before moving to a Chinese conservation centre.
