Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he will travel to Berlin next week for talks with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, with the meeting set for Tuesday, Aug. 26. The trip follows an announcement from the German government confirming Merz will host Carney at the Chancellery. Carney stated the visit aims to deepen economic cooperation and "pick up discussions" the two leaders began in Rome earlier this year and continued at June’s G7 summit in Alberta. Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson, Defence Minister David McGuinty and Industry Minister Mélanie Joly will accompany the prime minister. Berlin said the leaders will review current foreign and economic policy issues, underscoring ongoing efforts by both countries to expand bilateral trade and investment.
