Daimler Truck announced plans to cut approximately 5,000 jobs in Germany by 2030 as part of a cost reduction strategy amid declining sales. The company, which operates five locations in Germany, aims to lower ongoing expenses in Europe by over 1 billion euros. This workforce reduction is largely attributed to shifting Mercedes-Benz truck production to countries with lower costs and weak market demand, particularly impacting the truck manufacturing segment. In addition to the German job cuts, Daimler Truck North America plans to temporarily lay off 2,000 employees across five facilities in the U.S. and Mexico, including Freightliner and Western Star Trucks operations. Separately, the food delivery service Lieferando announced it will reduce its workforce by around 2,000 couriers in Germany by the end of the year, transitioning a portion of deliveries to third-party fleet partners.
