A regional court in Verden, Lower Saxony, has thrown out the attempted-murder charge against alleged former Red Army Faction member Daniela Klette, removing the heaviest count in a high-profile terror-related robbery case. Judges ruled that the 66-year-old acted with only a conditional intent to kill (“bedingter Tötungsvorsatz”) during a June 2015 attack on a cash-transport vehicle in Stuhr, where bullets penetrated the driver’s cab but injured no guards. The decision means Klette now faces a reduced sentencing range should she be convicted on the remaining offences. Prosecutors still accuse Klette of participating, together with alleged accomplices Burkhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub, in 13 armed robberies targeting cash vans and supermarkets across three German states between 1999 and 2016. The trio are alleged to have netted more than €2.7 million to finance life underground. Klette, who lived under false identities for around three decades before her arrest, has been on trial since March. Proceedings continue, with the court yet to set a date for a possible verdict.
