Ghana’s central bank is preparing a draft legal framework that will require virtual-asset platforms to obtain operating licences, according to officials familiar with the plan. The document is expected to be submitted to parliament by September 2025, paving the way for formal regulation of trading venues dealing in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Authorities say the measure is intended both to protect consumers and to widen the tax net on a fast-growing market. An estimated 3 million Ghanaian adults—roughly 17 per cent of the population—hold digital assets, making the West African nation one of the region’s most active crypto hubs.
