Ghana, Africa's largest gold producer, has launched a security-backed task force to combat illegal gold trading and recover billions of dollars lost to smuggling. Over the past decade, the country has lost approximately 600 tons of gold due to illicit activities. The newly established task force, known as the GOLDBOD Task Force, is equipped with advanced technological resources to dismantle illegal mining operations and address the associated economic and environmental damages. In addition to these efforts, Ghana is also moving to regulate the cryptocurrency sector by planning to license Bitcoin and other crypto platforms amid increasing demand. The government is reviewing its mining laws to shorten the duration of licenses granted, aiming to improve oversight and revenue capture from the mining industry.
