English amateur golfer Lottie Woad, currently the world number one amateur, has achieved notable success in recent weeks. She won the Women’s Irish Open on the Ladies European Tour (LET) by six shots, shooting rounds of 68, 67, 67, and 69. This victory marks her first professional-level tournament win and makes her the first amateur to win on the LET in three years. Despite her amateur status, which meant the £58,000 top prize was awarded to the runner-up, Woad's performance has been widely recognized as dominant against a field of LET and LPGA regulars. Following this, Woad took the clubhouse lead at the Evian Championship, a major tournament, after firing a final round 7-under-par 64. Her total 72-hole score of 271 set a new record for the lowest by an amateur at the Amundi Evian Championship, beating the previous record of 281 set in 2021 by Pauline Roussin-Bouchard. Woad, 21 years old, has earned her LPGA Tour card through the amateur pathway. A win at the Evian Championship would make her the first amateur to win a major since Catherine Lacoste in 1967, but she would forfeit the $1.2 million prize money if she claims the title.
