The San Jose Sharks have signed veteran winger Jeff Skinner to a one-year contract worth $3 million, the club announced Friday. Skinner, 33, tallied 29 points—16 goals and 13 assists—in 72 games for the Edmonton Oilers last season and added two points in five playoff appearances, the first postseason action of his 15-year career. Drafted seventh overall by Carolina in 2010, the 2010-11 Calder Trophy winner has amassed 699 points across 1,078 regular-season games with the Hurricanes, Buffalo Sabres and Oilers. General manager Mike Grier has been seeking a top-nine forward to bolster San Jose’s scoring depth; Skinner’s six career 30-goal seasons, including a 40-goal campaign in 2018-19, give the rebuilding Sharks an experienced scoring option on a low-risk deal.
