Hong Kong’s men sealed their first-ever Rugby World Cup berth with a 70–22 demolition of South Korea in Incheon on Saturday, clinching a sixth consecutive Asia Rugby Emirates Men’s Championship crown and the continent’s direct ticket to the 2027 global tournament in Australia. The visitors ran in ten tries, building a 39-point lead by halftime behind a dominant forward pack that accounted for six scores. Alex Post and captain Josh Hrstich each crossed twice, while Matt Worley, Paul Altier, Harry Sayers and Max Denmark added tries from the back line. South Korea managed late consolation scores but never threatened Hong Kong’s control of the match. Hong Kong finished the four-team championship unbeaten, having earlier dispatched the United Arab Emirates 43-10 and Sri Lanka 78-7. With Japan already qualified through its performance at the 2023 World Cup, Hong Kong become only the second Asian side to reach rugby’s showpiece event, which expands to 24 teams in 2027. The UAE, runners-up in the regional tournament, will face the second-placed nation from the Rugby Africa Cup on 26 July for another chance to reach November’s final qualification event in Dubai.
