Kenya’s national rugby side, the Simbas, opened their 2025 Rugby Africa Cup campaign with a 32–24 victory over regional rivals Uganda at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala on Tuesday. The quarter-final triumph also advances Kenya in the African qualifying pathway for the 2027 Rugby World Cup. Kenya built an early 12–0 lead through tries from Griffin Chao and Barry Young, but Uganda clawed back to 12–7 by halftime. Second-half drop goals from Young and a try by captain George Nyambua restored Kenyan control before a late Ugandan surge narrowed the deficit to five points. Young’s third drop goal sealed the result in the closing minutes. The Simbas will face Zimbabwe on 13 July after the Sables overpowered Morocco 43–8 in their quarter-final. Winners of the semifinals will move a step closer to securing Africa’s single direct berth at the 2027 World Cup in Australia.
