A Hong Kong magistrate on Wednesday found Japanese pop idol Kenshin Kamimura guilty of indecently assaulting a female interpreter during a post-event dinner on 2 March. Prosecutors said Kamimura repeatedly stroked the woman’s thigh at a Mong Kok restaurant after a fan meeting, a claim the 26-year-old denied. Judge Peter Yu ruled the touching was deliberate, sexual in nature and carried out without consent, rejecting defence arguments that the interpreter had exaggerated her account or that alcohol clouded the singer’s judgment. Kamimura, a former member of the boy band ONE N’ ONLY, was fined HK$15,000 (about US$1,900) and avoided jail. The offence carries a maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment. His recording contract had already been terminated following his March arrest.
