Dabur, a leading homegrown FMCG company, reported a net profit of ₹312.7 crore for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2025, falling short of expectations of ₹329 crore and marking an 8.4% year-on-year decline. The company's revenue remained flat at ₹2,830.14 crore compared to the previous year. Following the earnings announcement, Dabur's shares declined nearly 2% initially and plunged over 4% during intraday trading. The broader FMCG sector also experienced losses, with the Nifty FMCG index down 0.62%. Meanwhile, Indian equity markets faced a sharp selloff amid escalating geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan. The BSE Sensex dropped 880.34 points, or 1.10%, settling at 79,454.47, while the Nifty index fell 265.80 points, or 1.10%, to close at 24,008.00. This decline ended a three-week gaining streak for the Nifty. Other sectors including banking, realty, tourism, and IT also saw declines, with Nifty Bank slipping 3% and the IT index constituents trading mostly in red. Investor sentiment was further dampened by a spike in the India VIX volatility index, which rose by approximately 7%. Several stocks, including ICICI Bank, Power Grid, Shriram Finance, UltraTech, Asian Paints, and Sun Pharma, contributed to the market downturn. Additionally, some stocks such as Jindal Saw, Central Bank of India, Vodafone Idea, and Syngene International hit 52-week lows.
