Foreign investors are significantly increasing their investments in Indian equities, driven by factors such as the US interest rate cut and the resilience of the Indian market. In September 2024 alone, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have injected nearly Rs 34,000 crore into Indian equities, marking the second highest monthly inflow of the year. This surge includes a single-day buying spree of Rs 14,064 crore, the largest in three years. Overall, FPIs have pumped over Rs 87,000 crore into Indian equities this quarter, the highest since June 2023. The total net investment into the Indian capital markets in September stands at Rs 33,446 crore, despite a Rs 245 crore withdrawal from debt markets. The Indian market's strong growth prospects, increased global index weightage, and large initial public offerings (IPOs) are attracting substantial foreign investments. The return of overseas funds to the $5 trillion market is notable after election-related uncertainty earlier this year triggered a brief hiatus.
