An Indian Air Force Jaguar twin-seat trainer aircraft crashed during a routine training mission near Churu in Rajasthan on 9 July, killing both pilots on board. The victims were identified as Squadron Leader Lokender Singh, 33, and Flight Lieutenant Rishi Raj Singh. The jet had taken off from the Suratgarh air base and went down in a rural area, where debris and one body were initially recovered. The IAF said there was no damage to civilian property and dispatched a helicopter and local rescue teams to secure the site. Eyewitnesses told local media that the pilots appeared to steer the aircraft away from a nearby village before impact. A court of inquiry has been constituted to determine the cause of the accident. Wednesday’s crash is the third involving the ageing Jaguar fleet since March, adding to concerns about the platform’s safety record.
