A Russian Sukhoi Su-34 fighter-bomber crashed on July 1 during a training flight near the town of Kulebaki in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that the crash occurred due to a landing gear malfunction, with only the front landing gear deployed while the main gear was jammed. Both crew members ejected; however, the navigator died from injuries sustained during an unsuccessful ejection, while the pilot initially survived but later died from injuries. The Su-34 is a more advanced aircraft compared to the initially reported Su-27, and this incident marks the sixth Su-34 loss for Russia in the past week. The aircraft was operating from the Savasleyka airbase and reportedly had no weapons onboard at the time of the crash. Separately, on July 6, a Russian Antonov An-2 plane with 11 people onboard made a hard landing in the Transbaikalia region due to engine failure. Eight people were injured, three seriously, but there were no fatalities. Additionally, on July 16, the wreckage of a missing Russian Mi-8 helicopter was found near Cape Gadikan in the Khabarovsk region. The helicopter had disappeared on July 14 during a flight from Okhotsk to Magadan. All five crew members onboard died in the crash. On July 24, a Russian Antonov An-24 passenger plane carrying about 49 to 50 people went missing in the Amur region of Russia's Far East. The fuselage was found burning by rescuers approximately 15 kilometers from the city of Tynda. Initial reports indicate no survivors, with technical failure and pilot error considered possible causes.
