Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, Indian authorities have reported a surge in cyberattacks targeting the country. Maharashtra's Cyber Cell has recorded over one million cyberattacks originating mainly from groups based in Pakistan, the Middle East, Indonesia, and Morocco. These attacks have exploited vulnerabilities in critical sectors such as banking and government portals. Additionally, the Jammu Municipal Corporation suffered a major cyberattack resulting in the theft of multiple important documents from its website, with intelligence sources attributing the breach to Pakistani hackers. Officials have highlighted the growing threat of cyber warfare against India in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack. Furthermore, cybersecurity alerts have been issued regarding the use of deceptive tactics on platforms like WhatsApp, where malware is hidden in seemingly harmless images to steal personal and banking data. Fake websites related to popular pilgrimages such as the Char Dham Yatra have also been identified, designed to scam users by mimicking legitimate services for registration, taxis, and helicopter bookings. Authorities advise users to verify URLs carefully and avoid clicking on unknown links to protect against these scams.
