India is advancing its artificial intelligence capabilities through the IndiaAI Mission, which aims to develop the country's first sovereign multilingual large language model (LLM) with emotion-aware voice technology. This indigenous LLM is expected to be ready within six to eight months. Startups such as Sarvam and Soket AI are actively contributing to this effort by creating AI models designed for diverse applications including multilingual voice interfaces, defense, healthcare, and education. Sarvam has introduced Sarvam Samvaad, a conversational AI platform that supports enterprise deployment of AI agents fluent in 11 Indian languages, capable of handling complex interactions across telephone, WhatsApp, web, and apps. Industry leaders like Hugging Face’s CEO have expressed optimism about India’s growing momentum in the global AI landscape, highlighting the country’s increasing open-source contributions and expanding community of AI researchers and developers.
