Indian grocery delivery startup KiranaPro suffered a disruption after its internal code and data were deleted from its systems around May 24–25, 2025, resulting in the company's app being crippled and delayed salary payments to employees. Founder and CEO Deepak Ravindran clarified that the incident was an internal breach, allegedly caused by a disgruntled former employee who was recently terminated. The company admitted that proper offboarding procedures were not followed, as the employee's access to critical systems, including GitHub and AWS accounts, remained active after their departure. KiranaPro has 15 employees based in Bengaluru and Kerala and lacked a full-time HR at the time. KiranaPro restored its GitHub data from a backup and regained access to its AWS account, which was protected by multi-factor authentication. The company stated that customer data stored in AWS was not accessed or downloaded by any third parties. Salary payments to employees remain incomplete, despite the startup recently raising a seed round of ₹100 million (about $1.2 million), which has not yet been fully wired. KiranaPro is conducting an ongoing investigation, considering disciplinary action and a police complaint, and plans to improve internal processes and rebuild its core systems. The company, launched in late 2024, operates as an AI-powered, ONDC-integrated quick commerce platform serving over 55,000 customers in 50 cities, and is backed by investors including Blume Ventures, Unpopular Ventures, Turbostart, PV Sindhu, and Vikas Taneja.
