Navarro Warns of India's Tariffs Doubling on August 27
Former Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro said he expects the United States to double tariffs on Indian goods on Aug. 27. Speaking in an interview reported by several financial-market newswires on Thursday, Navarro argued that New Delhi has failed to acknowledge what he called its role in financing Russia’s war effort by continuing to buy and re-export Russian crude. Navarro did not specify which product categories would be affected or what the new tariff rate would be, but the move would escalate trade tensions with one of Washington’s key Indo-Pacific partners. The Biden administration has not commented on Navarro’s claim, and no formal notice of tariff changes has been published by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
