President Droupadi Murmu attended the 5th convocation ceremony of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar on July 14, 2025, where she highlighted the institution's role in providing quality healthcare and social welfare in Odisha and beyond. Following the incident, the principal of Fakir Mohan Autonomous College, Dilip Kumar Ghosh, was arrested and taken into judicial custody. The case has sparked protests by Biju Janata Dal (BJD) workers in Bhubaneswar, and Odisha Governor has sought a report on the matter. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed condolences over the student's death and announced government actions. BJD leaders have demanded President Murmu's intervention, citing concerns over the deteriorating situation of women in the state.
