Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries is poised to acquire Disney's assets in India, which includes the streaming service Disney+ Hotstar. As part of the regulatory conditions for the acquisition, Reliance will be required to divest seven television channels. In a related development, a Delhi-based app developer has purchased the JioHotstar domain name and is demanding that Reliance fund his education at Cambridge in exchange for the domain. This developer believes that the domain will be valuable once the merger between Reliance's Viacom18 and Disney+ Hotstar is finalized. However, Reliance has denied the developer's request and is reportedly considering legal action regarding the domain acquisition.
