The Supreme Court of India has directed the collegium of the Himachal Pradesh High Court to reconsider the names of two senior-most district and sessions judges for elevation to the High Court. This decision came on Friday after the top court allowed the petition by the two judges and held the plea to be maintainable, thereby nixing the earlier selection process carried out by the collegium earlier this year. The Supreme Court emphasized that the High Court chief justice cannot individually reconsider recommendations, and such actions must be undertaken collectively by the High Court collegium.
