The #SupremeCourt turned the tables on Central agencies by holding that laws which restrict bail like the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act warrant expeditious completion of trial, @kdrajagopal reports https://t.co/VtRolxQOfc
On September 26, the Supreme Court of India granted interim bail to Bhupesh Baghel's former deputy secretary in a money laundering case linked to an alleged coal-levy scam. In a related development, the Supreme Court emphasized that constitutional courts should not allow provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to become tools for the Enforcement Directorate to prolong incarceration. The court underscored the necessity for expeditious completion of trials under laws that restrict bail, such as the PMLA and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. Additionally, the Delhi riot cases are facing delays as bail pleas will be heard afresh for the third time due to judges' new postings.
