A new variant of the Anubis ransomware has been identified with an added file-wiping capability, making it a dual-threat malware. Unlike traditional ransomware that encrypts files and demands payment for decryption, this updated Anubis strain not only encrypts victims' data but also permanently deletes it, rendering recovery impossible even after ransom payment. This feature increases pressure on victims to comply with ransom demands. The ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) kit has been reported targeting sectors including healthcare and hospitality. The enhanced threat has been highlighted by multiple cybersecurity sources including Security Affairs, The Hacker News, and DarkReading.
