Eight men have been sentenced to prison terms ranging from 13.5 to 20 years for their involvement in Ireland's largest ever cocaine seizure. The group attempted to smuggle 2.2 tonnes of cocaine worth over €157 million aboard the vessel MV Matthew, which was intercepted by Irish Army Rangers off the Cork coast in September 2023. The combined prison sentences for the men exceed 100 years. Among those sentenced is a Dutch national who received a 20-year term. The case marks the biggest cocaine bust in Irish history.
