Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni told the CISL national congress in Rome that her government has helped generate more than one million additional jobs during its first 1,000 days in office, averaging about 1,000 new permanent positions daily. She said employment growth is the metric that makes her “most proud” of the administration’s record so far. Meloni credited the gains to a policy mix that includes tax relief on labour, investments financed by EU recovery funds and a newly approved law—originating from a CISL popular initiative—that gives employees a formal role in company governance and profit-sharing. She described the measure as a “historic achievement” that translates the Italian constitution’s Article 46 on workplace participation into practice. Rejecting what she called a “destructive conflict between workers and bosses,” the premier stressed the need for continuous dialogue with “intermediate bodies” and pledged more resources for workplace safety in the 2025 budget. CISL secretary Daniela Fumarola responded by urging the government, unions and employers to sign a broader “Patto della responsabilità” aimed at jointly pursuing productivity and social inclusion.
