On January 12, 2025, Italy experienced a wave of cyberattacks targeting its banks, ports, and companies, coinciding with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to the country. The attacks were attributed to pro-Russian hacker groups, specifically NoName057, as well as Palestinian hackers known as Alixsec. Reports indicated that access issues were reported across various institutional websites, but authorities stated that there was no risk to data security. The attacks appear to be a retaliatory measure linked to Italy's political support for Ukraine. Notably, the Italian bank Intesa Sanpaolo was among those targeted. The situation remains under investigation as cybersecurity experts analyze the implications of these attacks.
