Ciro Grillo, son of the founder of Italy's Movimento 5 Stelle, appeared in court for the first time in the group sexual violence trial involving him and three other defendants: Edoardo Capitta, Vittorio Lauria, and Francesco Corsiglia. The proceedings took place in Tempio Pausania. The public prosecutor, Capasso, requested nine-year prison sentences for all four accused, acknowledging generic mitigating circumstances but emphasizing the seriousness of the charges. Grillo maintained his innocence during the hearing. The trial concerns allegations of group sexual violence against an Italo-Norwegian student and her friend. The first-degree verdict has been postponed to September 2025. Separately, the trial of Daniela Santanchè, an Italian minister facing charges of false accounting related to the company Visibilia Srl, has also been postponed to September 16, 2025, due to procedural issues including the exclusion of Visibilia Srl from the case and concerns over the risk of statute of limitations expiring. The Tribunal of Milan ruled that Visibilia Srl, now inactive, should not be part of the civil case.
