Three young sisters, aged 9, 11, and 17, drowned while attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Italy in an overcrowded rubber dinghy. The vessel, carrying migrants fleeing war-torn Sudan, encountered rough seas with waves up to 1.5 meters, causing it to take on water. The incident occurred near Lampedusa, Italy. A German nonprofit organization, RESQSHIP, recovered the bodies and reported the tragedy. Approximately 65 people were rescued from the boat, including the sisters' mother and brother.
