Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump Organization and son of U.S. President Donald Trump, plans to travel to Tokyo early next month, according to people familiar with the matter. He is expected to attend a 1 September shareholder meeting of Metaplanet Inc., a Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed company that holds Bitcoin on its balance sheet and styles itself as a “Bitcoin treasury” firm. Metaplanet shareholders are slated to vote on new capital-raising methods at the gathering. Eric Trump joined the company’s strategic advisory board in March and will appear in Japan after speaking at the Bitcoin Asia conference in Hong Kong on 28–29 August, the people said. The trip underscores the Trump family’s broader push into digital assets. Over the past year the family has launched a crypto exchange, a U.S.-dollar stablecoin, a Bitcoin mining venture and several digital-asset ETFs, in addition to a meme token dubbed $Trump that has drawn criticism from Democratic lawmakers. President Trump has described himself as a “crypto president,” arguing that blockchain technology can strengthen the banking system and bolster the dollar’s global role.
