Japan’s Naoya Inoue will defend his undisputed super-bantamweight championship against Uzbekistan’s Murodjon “MJ” Akhmadaliev on 14 September at the 17,000-seat IG Arena in Nagoya, promoters announced Thursday. The bout is Inoue’s fifth defence since unifying the 122-pound division last year. The 32-year-old enters at 30-0 with 27 knockouts, while Akhmadaliev, 30, is the WBA interim champion and a former unified titleholder at 13-1 (9 KOs), positioning the match-up as the toughest of Inoue’s career. The agreement ends months of speculation after critics, including promoter Eddie Hearn, accused Inoue of avoiding the Uzbek mandatory challenger. The contest will resolve the WBA’s interim title and could pave the way for cross-division bouts for the winner. Separately, Saudi adviser Turki Alalshikh confirmed a four-title card for 22 November in Riyadh. WBC light-heavyweight champion David Benavidez will face Britain’s Anthony Yarde in the main event, with WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr meeting former lightweight titleholder Devin Haney on the same bill alongside two additional world title fights.
