The Japanese government has identified over 520,000 residents across 16 prefectures as requiring advance evacuation for up to one week in the event of a megaquake warning related to the Nankai Trough, according to an initial survey by the Cabinet Office. This number of pre-evacuees surpasses those who evacuated during the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, which involved approximately 470,000 evacuees including those from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. The advance evacuation designation is part of a temporary alert system for a potential massive earthquake along the Nankai Trough off Japan's Pacific coast. Additionally, evacuation orders have been issued for 151 households comprising 261 people in Kushima, Miyazaki Prefecture. Separately, flood warnings have been issued for the Manose and Kaseda rivers in Kagoshima Prefecture due to heavy rainfall, with authorities advising residents to avoid river areas and seek safety on upper floors of their homes.
