Japanese convenience store chain Lawson is launching a new paid service that allows customers to stay overnight in their parking lots for vehicles. The service, priced between 2,500 and 3,000 yen ($17 to $20) per night, is targeted at visitors attending local events and tourists seeking affordable accommodation alternatives amid rising hotel prices. A trial phase will begin on July 14, 2025, at six Lawson stores in Chiba Prefecture, including locations in Minamiboso and Kamogawa, and is expected to run through the end of June 2026. Each store will accept one vehicle per night, offering amenities such as power outlets, toilet access, and garbage bags. The initiative aims to attract younger travelers and create a new revenue stream for Lawson, with potential plans for nationwide expansion.
