Convenience-store operator Lawson Inc. will begin renting spaces in the parking lots of six stores in Chiba Prefecture for overnight stays starting 14 July. The pilot program, offered in partnership with the Japan RV Association, will charge between ¥2,500 and ¥3,000 ($17–$20) per vehicle per night and accept one reservation per store. Motorists who reserve through the RV Park website and pay in advance by credit card can park from 6 p.m. until 9 a.m. Each space provides access to electrical outlets, store restrooms and a garbage-disposal service. The chain says the 24-hour availability of food and staff on site is a key draw. Lawson aims to run the trial through the end of June 2026 and will consider expanding the service nationwide depending on demand. The initiative targets budget-conscious travelers and outdoor enthusiasts as hotel prices climb and inbound tourism rebounds, while creating a new revenue stream from underused parking real estate.
Lawson is planning to allow visitors to use some of its larger parking lots as vehicle campsites for a fee amid a rising number of inbound tourists in the country. https://t.co/H663um63Sq
