Osaka Prefectural Police have conducted a search of a construction company involved in the Angola Pavilion project at the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo on suspicion of violating construction business laws by operating without the proper permits. The company, Iroha Kensetsu, based in Osaka City, is alleged to have contracted interior work on the Angola Pavilion around January 2025 for approximately 120 million yen without obtaining the required national and prefectural approvals. Additionally, the company is reported to have failed to pay about 100 million yen in construction fees to its subcontractors, prompting warnings from the Osaka Prefectural Government. The company’s president and former accounting staff have given conflicting statements regarding the allegations. Separately, subcontractors have protested unpaid work on eight overseas Expo pavilions, highlighting broader payment issues related to the event.
